Outcome 1:
During this course I did:
- I read ” Jordan, K. & Weller, M. (2017). Openness and Education: A beginners’ guide. Global OER Graduate Network.”
- These comments below helped me to understand better how people enjoy online learning over face-to-face, and also why.
- The comment from Gekai Zhao made a great point about students becoming independent. It is one of the skills that students are taught in university. The comment from Mr. Ryan made me realize that having open learning and online work all the time is not the best choice, rather balance is very important
This is a quote from my blog post #2:
” I think the more we advance in the future, the better our learning technology will become, and it will be easier for people to experience both with different learning styles. Closed learning continuously keeps students focused and doing their work on time, whereas for open learning, students may be easily unfocused and unmotivated”
This was the summary of the blog and it made me realize how many people struggle with learning due to learning disabilities.
From completing these activities, I learned that learning can be shown in many different shapes, styles, and forms. Every student should have the opportunity to have their learning style catered to them as best as possible. This learning contributes to my development of “Critically reflect on and articulate concepts around modality, pedagogy, and access, including distributed and open learning theory, online and open learning history, privacy laws, online learning communities, open research, and open data.”
Outcome 2:
During this course I did:
- I read, ” Passphrases tips”
- I read, “Regan, P., & Jesse, J. (2019). Ethical challenges of edtech, big data and personalized learning: Twenty-first century student sorting and tracking. Ethics and Information Technology, 21(3), 167-179. DOI: 10.1007/s10676-018-9492-2″
- This comment: Hello. I think you make some interesting points. I agree that it is a good idea to separate the work email and the personal email, and everything else as well. This way there will not be overlap. At the same time, I always think that even in personal digital identity, it is good to assume it can be seen by employers as well, so it is good to be cautious.
- It made me think about how easy it is to have your information stolen and any private infomration. It is important to keep all your passwords and private information secret and to not tell anybody and take security precautions
Quote from my blog 1:
“Nowadays, it is critical to never let your guard down and to never divulge any of your sensitive information. Although I recognise that having a password manager is beneficial, I disagree. I’m not objecting because I dislike the notion; it’s simply that it’s too hard for me. I’d rather keep things basic and straightforward”
- It is very important to make sure to protect your passwords and be careful because there are many deceiving websites and hackers online that may steal valuable information.
Passwords are a key into the personal life of a person, the work of a student, and the secrets of a company. Passwords are used by everyone to keep their data and information safe. Passwords also must be complex and secure to make sure no unwanted guests can access the information. Passwords should contain numbers letters and symbols. The letters should also include captials and lowercase’s to make sure guessing the password is even more complex and harder. Passwords are conrununtly changing as we know can have our finger prints and faces as passwords for our devices and files!
From completing these activities, I learned that it is very crucial to have your passwords written somewhere safe and having a password manager is a great idea.
This learning contributes to my development of “Practice digital, networked, and open literacies in support of learning about distributed and open learning”
Outcome 3:
During the course I did:
I read: “Mays, E. (Ed.). (2017). A guide to making open textbooks with students. Rebus Community.
– Read Chapter 1: Open Pedagogy”
- Websites are a key component for any business in this day and age. What is arguably as crucial is having the correct target audience because with the wrong audience the website renders itself useless. This is even more important for educational sites as no one will take use of them expect for that specific target audience. This is why the target audience is the most aspect of marketing a website otherwise you have no purpose of making the website.
- My blog quote:
- “On the other hand, outside the university, I could benefit a lot by creating areas and environments to help players feel more comfortable with reaching out to me and also to spread my name online. This will help a lot with my coaching dream. I related the readings to my personal reading quite a bit, I remember in my first year, many of the courses I took when half online and half face-to-face, although I was a bit nervous at first because I find it harder to ask for help.”
Comments:
- I agree with you that online classes are indeed easier than face-to-face classes because there are no geographical restrictions.
This comment I completely agree with because geographical restrictions may be a difficult barrier.
- I agree with your point that some students enjoy learning online a lot, it was quite nice to relax at home. But I think face-to-face can help some students who have poor self-control. So I think they are suitable for different types of students.
This comment is very true. Many students have trouble with procastination and staying focused so it really depends on which way the student learns best.
From completing these activities, I learned that every student is different and every student has different needs for their learning style. Nowadays, institutions do a good job of providing different ways of learning to cater for the people.
This learning contributes to my development of “Examine and reflect upon the potential for equitable access for all learners in online and open learning contexts.”
